Scheduling
How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?
After registration, payment, permit verification, and any required classroom/online completion steps are finished, students can schedule available behind-the-wheel lessons through their student account.
Lesson availability depends on instructor schedules, student demand, pickup location, route timing, and package selection.
Road Tests
Do you guarantee that I will pass my road test?
No driving school can guarantee a passing score. Steady Wheels provides training, preparation, and honest feedback, but the final result depends on the student's skill, practice, judgment, and performance during the official test.
Do you schedule the Ohio road test for students?
Students and families are responsible for scheduling the official Ohio road test through the Ohio BMV system.
Steady Wheels can help students understand when they may be ready and what they should bring, but the official test must be scheduled through the proper state testing process.
Pickup Service
Does selecting my school guarantee home pickup?
No. Selecting a school helps determine which package options are available, but it does not automatically guarantee home pickup. Some schools serve students from many different areas across Columbus, so home pickup is only available when the correct package is offered and approved.
If home pickup is not listed for your school, students may still use a meet-at-academy package, school pickup package, or another approved option.
Which schools qualify for Premium Pickup?
Premium Pickup availability is based on the approved pickup map and the option selected during registration. Students and parents should review the map to see whether their school or area is approved for Premium Pickup.
Pickup is not guaranteed until the registration, selected package, service area, route timing, and instructor availability are reviewed by Steady Wheels Driving Academy.
If a school or address is not approved for Premium Pickup, the student may need to choose school pickup, meet at the academy, or select another available option.
Why do some schools only show school pickup?
Some schools have students who may live throughout Columbus, even if the school itself is near our service area. For those schools, Steady Wheels may offer school pickup instead of automatic home pickup.
This helps keep lesson routes organized, protects instructor schedules, and allows us to provide reliable training without overpromising pickup availability.
Policies
What is your cancellation policy?
Students must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time.
Late cancellations, missed appointments, no-shows, arriving without the required permit or license, arriving unprepared, or not being present at the approved pickup location may result in a $50 cancellation/no-show fee.
Repeated cancellations or missed appointments may delay the student's program completion.
What is your refund policy?
All payments are final and non-refundable once registration is submitted and payment is processed. This includes missed lessons, late cancellations, no-shows, unused package time, online course access, and completed services. Please review your selected course, package, pickup option, and schedule before registering.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Lessons may be rescheduled if weather conditions make driving unsafe. Light rain does not automatically cancel a lesson because students should learn how to drive in normal weather conditions.
Severe weather, unsafe road conditions, or instructor safety concerns may require rescheduling.
Payments
What payment methods do you accept?
Steady Wheels accepts approved online payment methods through our registration system. Payment must be completed before a student's spot is fully reserved or before lessons are scheduled.
When is payment due?
Payment is due at registration. If payment is not completed at checkout, it must be received within 24 hours to keep the registration active.
Can I register before paying?
Yes. A registration may be submitted before payment is completed. However, payment must be received within 24 hours or the registration will be canceled and the spot will be released to another student.
Do you offer payment plans?
No. Steady Wheels Driving Academy does not offer payment plans at this time. Payment is due in full at registration, and a student's spot is not reserved until registration and payment are completed.
Packages
What packages do you offer?
Steady Wheels may offer meet-at-academy, driver education guidance with behind-the-wheel training, school pickup, premium pickup, and extended-area package options.
Package availability depends on the student's school, selected package, pickup eligibility, route timing, and instructor availability.
What is the Meet at Academy package?
The Meet at Academy package allows the student to complete behind-the-wheel lessons by meeting the instructor at Steady Wheels Driving Academy or another approved meeting location.
This option is best for students who live outside our pickup area, prefer a lower-cost option, or attend a school that does not qualify for home pickup.
What is the School Pickup package?
The School Pickup package allows eligible students to be picked up and/or dropped off at their selected school. This package does not automatically include home pickup.
It is designed for schools where students may live in many different areas across Columbus, while still giving families a convenient school-based pickup option.
What is the Premium Pickup package?
The Premium Pickup package may include approved home or school pickup/drop-off for students in the core service area. Pickup is based on package selection, route timing, instructor availability, and final approval by Steady Wheels Driving Academy.

Ohio teen students must complete 24 hours of classroom, virtual, or approved online instruction and 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving school. Students must also complete 50 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night, and hold their temporary permit for at least 6 months before receiving a probationary license.
How old does a student need to be to start driver education in Ohio?
In Ohio, students may begin driver education at 15 years and 5 months old. Students must have a valid Ohio temporary permit, also called a TIPIC, before beginning any behind-the-wheel lesson.
Do I need a temporary permit before signing up?
A temporary permit is not required to contact us, register, or begin the classroom/online portion of driver education. However, students must have a valid, unexpired Ohio temporary permit before any behind-the-wheel lesson can begin.
Behind-the-Wheel
Can I use my own car for lessons?
No. Behind-the-wheel lessons are completed in approved training vehicles equipped for driver education.
Our vehicles include instructor safety equipment such as a passenger-side brake, instructor mirrors, seat belts, and student driver signage.
When can I start behind-the-wheel lessons?
Students can begin behind-the-wheel lessons once they are properly registered, payment requirements are met, they have a valid Ohio temporary permit or driver's license, and the required classroom portion has been completed.
The classroom portion may be completed through Steady Wheels Driving Academy's in-person class or through an approved online classroom provider. Once the online class is completed, Steady Wheels must receive and verify the completion record before behind-the-wheel training begins.
How many behind-the-wheel hours are required?
Ohio requires 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed driving school as part of driver education. At Steady Wheels, lessons are usually scheduled in 2-hour blocks so students have enough time to practice, improve, and receive clear instructor feedback.
How long are driving lessons?
Behind-the-wheel lessons are typically scheduled in 2-hour sessions. For example, an 8-hour behind-the-wheel course is usually completed in four 2-hour driving sessions.
Lesson length and scheduling may vary based on the course, package, instructor availability, and student needs.
What will I learn during behind-the-wheel lessons?
Students may practice vehicle control, turning, lane changes, speed control, parking, backing, maneuverability, defensive driving, residential driving, city driving, and highway readiness.
Lessons are adjusted based on the student's current skill level, safety, confidence, and progress.
Do you teach nervous or first-time drivers?
Yes. Steady Wheels works with beginners, nervous drivers, and students who need more confidence behind the wheel.
Our instructors focus on building safe habits step by step while helping students become more comfortable in real driving situations.
Will students drive on the highway?
Yes. Highway driving is included as part of Steady Wheels Driving Academy's behind-the-wheel training. Students will practice highway driving once the instructor determines they are ready and can safely handle vehicle control, lane changes, speed management, merging, awareness, and decision-making in higher-speed traffic.
Do you teach maneuverability and parking?
Yes. Students will practice maneuverability, parking, backing, turning control, reference points, spacing, and vehicle positioning.
These skills are important for both the Ohio driving test and everyday driving.
What should I bring to my driving lesson?
Students must bring their valid Ohio temporary permit to every lesson. Students should also wear safe driving shoes, bring glasses or contacts if required, and be ready to begin at the scheduled lesson time.
Do I need my own car insurance for lessons?
No. Students are covered under Steady Wheels Driving Academy's commercial training insurance while participating in approved behind-the-wheel lessons.
